As promised, I’m going back to 2021 and my holiday paintings from that year; the cloud studies.
The idea started early in 2021 with a few small studies I was doing on the balcony. It was a lot of fun. It was also (as with most things) something I could study, well, forever. So I kept doing them.
The previous year I had made 50 watercolour cards of various subjects. Very various. And that was great because I felt like I could really use the watercolour practice. But I’ve never really seen watercolour as my primary medium.
Stop me if I explained this in the cards, but I wanted to share my acrylics that year. So the idea evolved into making 50 cloud studies as my holiday cards. I had recently discovered mineral paper which is something of a miracle in terms of a surface for acrylics. Long story short, it’s fantastic for sketches.
I think that about covers it, so it’s time to show the finished sketches. Here are all 50 together before they were scattered to the wind!
